Friendship issues

So I don’t normally do this type of thing but imma try anyway.

So about 6 months ago i moved to a new school. This school is pretty much outside the city and theres not a lot of diversity in the actual school (the pupils)

So I’m pretty much the only person of colour and the only girl who wears a hijab in my year. I’m one of three hijabis out of the whole school.

Now I moved to this school at an awkward time. Everyone is already in their friend groups etc and i can’t really just go and join. There aren’t any muslim girls in my year, and no one else i really have a lot in common with.

Theres one girl im friends with and maybe 1 or 2 others but they all hang out with a big group, and i hang around with them i guess at lunch at break.

Thing is i don’t like this group apart from the 3 other people i mentioned before. The rest of the group smoke, they’re generally racist(not to me) and i just don’t like them. I get the feeling they view me as an outsider.

Now i’d preferably like to leave that group, but if i do i’ll be on my own.

There’s not exactly a lot of pupils in my year and none of them really talk to me or invite me to sit with them for lunch etc. I’ve tried talking to them and they’re nice but they dont invite me to hang out with them for lunch or break etc. And i can’t just go and sit with them randomly.

In summary-I have no “proper ” friends, and pretty much feel lonely. I see other people doing stuff on weekends and i pretty much do nothing. The only friends i see are friends from my old school at the weekends when il go and see them. I would like the leave the group i’m in or i’ll be by myself. 😦

Does anyone have any advice? Thank i’d really appreciate it. It’s such a horrible feeling to be lonely tbh and i really don’t like it. Especially since im at school 5 days a week, 7 hours

Thanks for reading

Book review: All the bright places

Salam alykum/Hiiii!

First of all, sorry for being so inactive on here, as i posted previously, i was on holiday and unfortunately there was no wifi 😦 .

However now that i’m back everything shall hopefully return to normal  (whatever that means, right?)

So, over my holiday i read a book called All the bright places, and oh my god, it was sooo good but soooooo tragic at the same time, THE FEELS OH MY GOD (sorry about that, this is what happens when i talk about any book or comic book series or anything that has me feeling emotional).

Without giving too much away, All the bright places is a book about a boy called Finch, who is obsessed with dying, and a girl called Violet, who is trying to get her life back after the death of her sister, Eleanor.

The two meet in a very unusual situation at the beginning of the book and that is all i am going to say because i don’t want to give any spoilers.

All the bright places had me feeling all kinds of emotions, from sadness to happiness and everything in between, it was heartwarming, funny and full of wit and humour but also sad and tragic, I may or may not have cried at the end.

All the bright places was written by Jennifer Niven,  and i totally recommend you go read all her books because she’s an amazing author.

To finish, All the bright places was amazing and i would give it a  9 out of 10.

Thats it for today, did you like this review? Should i write more book reviews? Tell me your opinion in the comments!

Byeee 🙂

Why I’ve been absent for so long

Hi y’all/salams

I don’t think anyone actually cared about my absense but anyway ,just in case anyone was wondering, the reason I’ve been gone for so long is due to the fact that im currently on holiday in Morocco and have no wifi.

Muslim women don’t need saving

Hi/Salam y’all

Okay, for someone who isn’t even from America, or who has never been , i say y’all way too much.

Sorry for that. I kinda lost concentration.

I’ve been wanting to blog about this for a long time after getting fed up of seeing salty guys on Reddit go on about women in Islam.

Yes, i know it’s Reddit and all, but it’s becoming common to see posts all over the internet talk about women being oppressed by “evil Islam” or whatever.

Now this annoys me, because many of these people don’t seem to have actually had any experience with Muslim women,  instead they go by countries like Saudi Arabia, or any country in the Middle East which treats women terribly. Also, these people aren’t Islamic scholars, or Sheikhs, or Imams, they’re just regular people who have  read maybe , one article or one verse of the Quran  without bothering to look up it’s full interpretation or background and claim that “Islam is evil”.

Yes, women in some so-called “Islamic” countries get treated horribly, and like second class citizens, however i cannot think of anything in Islam which naturally opresses women. There are lots of strong, determined, and very un-oppressed women in Islamic history.

Take the Prophet Muhammed pbuh’s wife Aisha. Aisha is known for many things, and was an amazing woman, but one of  things that sticks out to me the most was that she led an entire army into battle. Yep, an entire army.

Islam gave women rights, it gives us the right to own property, to divorce, to choose who to marry and many more.

Yet we all focus on other people’s perceptions of Islam.

Now, you might be thinking, “but Iman have you ever lived in a Muslim country?” and the answer to that is yes, i have  lived in a Muslim country before and I was absolutely fine. Not all Muslim countries are the same as Saudi Arabia.

I, along with many other Muslim women don’t need saving.

So please stop telling us we’re oppressed or brainwashed by the ” evil cult which is Islam”

I pray 5 times a day, read Quran, fast during Ramadan, and have recently started wearing the Hijab, yet at the same time i love reading , i’m a massive comic book nerd and I will almost obsessively talk about my favourite characters.

I don’t need saving. Yes there are women who will need help, however it’s ridiculous to assume all Muslim women are being oppressed, or maltreated in any way.

One way people assume Muslim women are being oppressed is Hijab, when many of the women wearing Hijab are choosing to wear it themselves. Alhamdullilah, no one in my family was ever forced to wear the Hijab, including me. Yes there are women who are forced, however many wear it based on their own choice.

So please stop assuming all Muslim women need saving, because not all of us do.

What did you think of this post? Tell me in the comments!

favourite Marvel characters : Kitty Pryde

Hey y’all/Salam
So I’ve talked about my favourite superpowers and written about Daredevil, so you should all know by now that i love anything superhero-ish. However i think its about time i spoke about one of my favourite women of Marvel:Kitty Pryde

Katherine “Kitty” Pryde is a Jewish mutant with the ability to become intangible. She first joined the X-men when she was young and became known as Sprite, she’s served as Wolverine’s “sidekick” before and is a prominent member of the X-men. She’s clashed with people like Emma Frost and had relationships with people like Colossus ( or Piotr Rasputin if you want to know him by his real name),  fought villains and more. She’s funny, lovable, and isn’t afraid to fight dirty. I love Kitty Pryde because of her personality, her wit and her abilities.

That’s it for today folks, tell me if you liked this post and if you want more like it!

6 of my favourite superpowers

Hi y’all/Salam

I’m a big fan of reading. Whether that be regular novels or comic books, and  comic books, a lot of the time being about superheroes obviously feature a lot of powers. As do books depending on your genre

So i thought i’d do a post talking  about some of my favourite powers. This list isn’t ranked by how much i like the power or anything.

  1. Telepathy

This is one of the most amazing superpowers in my opinion, due to the amount that     can be done with it, and the broadness of it. Think of Jean Grey or Emma Frost from the X-men. Remember how powerful they are ? Or even Psylocke. Telepathy isn’t limited to reading minds which i find really appealing. Karma, a Vietnamese mutant, has the ability to possess other people’s minds,Psylocke has her psychic knife etc.

2. Intangibillity

How cool would it be to be able to walk through walls? Or phase through people? Well that’s exactly what Kitty Pryde from the X-men can do with her intangibillity. I love this superpower because it’s not something astounding like telekinisis yet can be used in so may different ways.

3. Regeneration/Healing factor

Do i need to explain this one? Just look at Wolverine. Or X-23( yes i’m aware she’s currently Wolverine).

4. Water manipulation

Not a comic book character, but Percy Jackson, a son of Poseidon has the ability to do this. He can even control other liquids eg when he controlled poison in Tartarus in the House of Hades

5. Power Mimicry

Hope Summers, the mutant Messiah, has the ability to copy anyone else’s power. How amazing would that be?

6. Superhuman senses

I’ve written about Daredevil before on this blog, but i really do love his powers. He can’t fly, or turn invisible, or anything like that, yet his superhuman senses are extremely powerful, and along with his radar sense, help to compensate for his blindness.

That’s it for this post! Do you  like these powers or not? Tell me what you think in the comments!

My opinion on: Marvel’s Black Panther movie

Hey y’all/Salam alykum,

So i’m a big Marvel comics fan,but suprisingly enough i’ve never really read any Black Panther before. I remember him being in Avengers Vs X-men,but that’s all i’ve really read with him in it.I know some information about him, he was married to Storm from the X-men aka the queen of all X-men(can you tell i love Ororo Munro?)  and he’s the king of Wakanda. He’s also a genius and has cool powers.

After seeing the trailer,i’m so excited for this film though, because of it’s cast!

Now i’m not black, im Arab, but this is the first superhero film with a black superhero as the main character. So it’s a big deal, and as someone who loves diversity when it comes to Comics, films and books/diversity in general, i’m pretty excited.

I hope to start getting into the Black Panther comics, so if any of you could recomend a good starting point, that would be great.

I can tell the movie is going to be great and i think it’s going to be one of my favourite superhero films of all time.

What do you think? Are you excited for the Black Panther movie? Tell me your opinion in the comments!

Racism amongst Poc and Muslims.

Hi !/Salam alykum

Warning: I don’t intend to offend anyone here, if you somehow get offended by this then you probably need to reassess your priorities.

So this is something which I feel pretty strongly about. I’m Arab and i can see how much racism there is in Arab communities.

Racism  amongst other people of colour really irritates and frustrates me, shouldn’t we all be in solidarity with one another, instead of dividing ourselves and creating friction?

Shouldn’t we recognise that it’s ironic that we go on about other people being discriminatory or racist against us, yet we do the same to others?

The amount of  racism in our communities is disgusting, and racism amongst anyone is terrible, regardless of their religious beliefs, but the amount  amongst Muslims is horible.

Before anyone gets offended, i’m Muslim.

We have parents refusing to let their kids marry interacially, simply due to racism. We can talk about it being due to cultural differences or whatever you want to say, but a lot of the time its due to racism.

Now just to clarify, there is nothing that supports racism in Islam.  There’s racism amongst muslims. The only thing that matters in Islam when getting married is Piety and Taqwa( God consciousness). There’s nothing about race, or ethnicity, or culture.

Nationalism, tribalism, and racism are all forbidden in Islam.

So why do we all care so much? I’ts  ignorant and contradicting what Islam tells us.

O people!  Your God is one and your forefather (Adam) is one.  An Arab is not better than a non-Arab and a non-Arab is not better than an Arab, and a red (i.e. white tinged with red) person is not better than a black person and a black person is not better than a red person, except in piety”

It’s telling us that the only difference between us is by our level of piety. Not race or culture or ethnicity.

I think we could all learn from this.

I’d be really grateful if i got some feedback, thank you!

Iman 🙂
